When it comes to trainers, Vans have you covered. The Sk8 His are some of the finest trainers on the market, and are a testament to the quality that goes into every Vans product. Here we give you tips on how best to wear them.
When you’re looking for new footwear, you really do get what you pay for, and quality is everything. The fine quality that we all look for in our shoes today could be found way back when Vans was founded in 1966. Somewhat oddly, founders Paul Van Doren, James Van Doren, Gordon Lee and Serge D’Elia started their first day of business equipped solely with display shoes, and with no stock on their shelves whatsoever.
12 customers showed up at the store on the very first day and, impressed with the quality of the display models, ordered their preferred styles. Two of our fantastic founders, Paul and Lee, then rushed over to their factory to manufacture the shoes, with the idea that the customers return to the store later in the day to pay for them.
Unfortunately the lack of a cash flow at Vans meant that they actually had no change for their first patrons. To keep good relations, all 12 customers were given their shoes anyway, and asked to return the next day with the correct money. They all did.
That great quality found in the first 12 pairs of shoes still resonates today, as does the customer loyalty that Vans have quite rightly earned. But that’s enough of the history lesson. Now onto one of Vans’ finest wares!
If I know one thing for sure, it’s that you guys will get a kick out of wearing the Sk8 Hi trainers. As you stroll down the street, and those who walk behind you invariably avert their eyes to your feet, they will lock onto the unmistakable Vans tags on the backs of your heels and they’ll know you mean business.
These smart and classic trainers are mostly made from cotton, so they’re soft and fairly flexible, yet they’re very supportive at the ankles with some comfortable padding. They have great leather detailing and those trademark Vans stripes down the sides, to boot.
How to wear them
Casual is the way to go with these gems. The Sk8 Hi trainers are suitable for almost any time of year (bar the really wet days), so they’re great for slipping on whenever you fancy. The warmer seasons are definitely the best time to wear them, though; that way you can expose your hard-earned calf muscles whilst you strut your stuff in these great quality shoes.
Pairing the Sk8 His with a fine pair of denim shorts will draw attention to your feet, as well as giving you that carefree look as you embrace and absorb the glowing sun. Top it off with a pair of smart shades and short-sleeved shirt for a look that screams casual and cool.
In the same breath, the Sk8 Hi trainers look terrific with a skateboard beneath them; so you can don your cap and ride that board for a proper, carefree skater look, if that’s how you roll!
On the cooler days, when wearing shorts will only result in a wave of goosebumps, combine the Sk8 Hi trainers with a pair of chinos and wrap your torso in a stylish jacket, like the Dickies Julesburg gilet; you’ll look warm, slick and casual as they come.
Who wears the Sk8 Hi’s?
Vans are an iconic brand, so it should come as no surprise that they attract some celebrity customers. Many celebrities have been spotted wearing the Sk8 Hi trainers – Wiz Khalifa and Zac Efron to name but two – in their own stylistic ways.
Mr Efron in particular gives us the perfect example of how to wear them on one of those days where you just feel like slipping on a pair of jeans and a short sleeved t-shirt. He does the casual look very well indeed by topping it off with a pair of sweet shades and sporting a cool cut. The Sk8 Hi trainers are very much at home with the rest of Zac’s outfit; understated, yet deceptively smart.
Wiz Khalifa on the other hand has gone for the skater style, and boy does he look the part. Here he sports some shorts and, like Zac, a t-shirt (although in this case it is a much more modest one). There is nothing smart about this outfit, although it captures perfectly the skater look that the Sk8 Hi trainers suit so well. It would seem that these trainers have ‘Sk8’ in their name for a reason!
And On That Note
And there you have it. The Sk8 Hi trainers are the masters of the trainer world. They offer a greater degree of flexibility than a lot of the competition, and they’re a worthy addition to your wardrobe. So go ahead and try them on. You won’t regret it. After all, they’re the trainers of choice for film stars and song writers!
