Need a few tips on getting that casual style down to a tee? Then check out this style guide on mens casual fashion tips, from yours truly, to nail that casual look perfectly.

Getting a casual look spot on each time is something to be admired. You look at various celebrities and wonder how they can look so good when they’re out and about, but then you remember that they have a hefty bank account and maybe even a stylist. Well, for us commoners we simply have to do it ourselves and nail that casual look without the help of an overpriced professional.

None of us come to work in a full three piece suit so we’re pretty casual when it comes to dressing. We never want to see a guy not dressed to impress so we’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to nailing that casual style each and every time.

T-shirts

It’s best to start with the basics, so, getting your T-shirts down to a tee (no pun intended) is vital to nailing that casual wardrobe of your dreams. You’ll hear a lot of people talking about classic basics when it comes to your everyday wardrobe, and they’ll be right. Nothing suits a man better then when he has his basics correct.

When it comes to your tee’s then pick out colours that you can wear over and over again with a multitude of different looks and pieces. Go for a classic crew-neck tee in black, grey and white as these colours will see you through many looks and situations with ease.

Shirts

Personally, nothing beats a casual shirt as they can be worn with jeans or trousers for a spot on look no matter what the season. Again, much like the T-shirt, you’ll want to buy a series of shirts that will last you, and, will go with almost everything in your wardrobe.

Why not try this white number for a classic and timeless look – teamed with a pair of casual black trousers and trainers for a bang on trend look this season. For when the whether gets a little warmer (if it ever gets warmer) then why not give these pink and blue shirts a go. Their colour make for a classic summertime piece, and, they’ll work with both shorts and trousers during the warmer months.

Jumpers

Due to the time of year it’s best that we all have something warmer in our wardrobes than just a T-shirt. The great thing about winter is that you can layer up a look whilst still being stylish and warm. Again, you’ll want to stick with classic colours and shapes so they’ll slot easier into your wardrobe.

Their classic colours and plain design make them the perfect wintery piece to have in your wardrobe arsenal this season. Try wearing this blue number over a white button down shirt and raw denim jeans for a cracking casual look this season. Or, go for a black number with a pair of black slim jeans and leather biker jacket for an alternative and stylish look.

Trousers/ Jeans

Your outfit won’t be complete without something on the bottom half, so it’s about high time you invest in a decent pair of trousers or jeans to see you through the year. Some of you may be thinking that a pair of trousers may be a touch too formal, but I’m here to tell you that you can wear a nice pair of trousers casually.

Jeans are a given when it comes to a casual wardrobe. This raw denim pair from Nudie are a spot on pair to own this season. The great thing about raw denim is its versatility and durability, they can see you through a plethora of situations ranging from the super casual to a more smart-casual situation.

Trainers

Trainers are a given when it comes to a casual wardrobe. Of course, you’ll want to keep them in a certain colour pallet and style so that they see you through numerous outfits and situations.

Try a pair of classic high tops, such as these classic Converse Chuck Taylor’s, for a retro inspired, yet modern look. Teamed with a pair of raw denim jeans and a plain white tee for a classic casual look with a nod to the 50’s. For something a little more subtle then try these white plimsolls from Superga for a simple and played down look. Teamed with a pair of casual black jeans or even trousers for a spot on look this season.

Shoes

Choosing to wear a more formal shoe with a more casual look is a great way to introduce versatility and that slight bit difference to your look. If you are going for a casual wardrobe then I’d avoid shoes such as brogues or monk straps as they’re very formal and may look a touch odd when worn with a pair of jeans.

Try wearing a pair of loafers in brown, such as this pair from G.H.Bass & Co. Perfect for teaming with a pair of navy trousers and a white button down shirt for a cracking summer casual look. However, seeing as it is winter I’d suggest wearing something a little more practical, such as these Chelsea boots from Hudson. Their versatile colour and material make them a great piece to have in your footwear arsenal. Teamed with a pair of black slim jeans and sweatshirt for a bang on trend look this season.

And On That Note

Getting your casual wardrobe right is essential no matter what the season. The trick is to invest in basic pieces that will see you through a variety of situations with ease. The great thing about building a basic wardrobe is that you can add seasonal and trend lead pieces in around it whilst still have the basic wardrobe framework.

A simple T-shirt can go a long way, worn with jeans, trousers or as a layering piece, you can always find room for a good tee. Invest in the three basic colours, black, grey and white as these will work with anything and everything in your wardrobe without fail. For a shirt, then try a classic oxford (steer clear of the dress shirt as this is too formal) in either white, blue or even pink. These are great transitional pieces as you can wear them form day to night with ease.

Try a pair of casual trousers for a look that’s a bit different this season; go for a trend lead wide leg version, or, stick to the classic suit trouser for a timeless feel. Obviously you can wear a pair of jeans, just stick to a raw denim and black pair to build your denim wardrobe with ease. Throw on a pair of brown tasselled loafers or some high tops for a great transitional look this season.

Building a casual wardrobe isn’t as difficult as you’d first think, you just have to remember your basics and you’ll be good as gold to style yourself this season.
