If you want to know how to wear a scarf, then this article will give you an idea of how to do just that.
There isn’t much you can do with a scarf except to wear it. So it is important that you at least wear it correctly. Often relatable to a tasteful fashion accessory, a scarf can very easily compliment any outfit.
With that said, there is almost no wrong way to wear a scarf, only an appropriate way. This will hopefully give you a better idea of what to do and which style goes with it. And if you are wondering, snoods are not appropriate for anything other than wearing it in the park on a five mile run.
The most important thing to remember is the obvious – a scarf is there to protect your neck to keep warm. But if you’re struggling with how to style it, read on.
Here are a few ways on how to wear a scarf:
The European Knot
Maybe the most commonly used way to wear a scarf. Fold the scarf’s length in half then put it round your neck. With the ends put it through the loop you have created by folding and pull the knot to tighten.
The good thing about this knot is that it comes to an all-round end by the middle of your chest. Therefore you can either have it tucked in for those bitterly cold nights or leave it out for the more casual look.
The Classic Drape
Not really used for any great significance other than aesthetic. It’s just placed over the shoulders for the most nonchalant look imaginable. It just goes round the neck and comes down the chest.
However there is no explanation to those who place it under the collar of the overcoat. None.
The Wrap Around
Not the easiest style to get right as it can look really amateurish if done without care. It is easily the most polished of them all when done correctly. However, it is important to know that this method doesn’t work with any jacket. A 2x wrap around would ideally be the best look as opposed to just the one.
The Fake Knot
Another knotted style, but this is not as adjustable like its European associate. Place the scarf around your neck and tie a knot with one side of it. Loosen the knot you have created and slip the other end through.
The Double Ascot Knot
Resembles a tie in the way it is put together and in many ways this style of how to wear a scarf is actually a tie for the outerwear clothes.
If that was a cheesy way of putting it, the ascot knot style itself has a lot of character and it compliments virtually all jackets whether open, half-zipped, or zipped.
There is a standard ascot knot, which is more relaxed around the neck and gives a more ‘black tie event’ look.
