When most people think of a leather jacket, they think of the classic ‘biker’ profile of a bulky piece with wide labels, but there are actually several styles of leather jackets which be found at a wide range of stores, such as at Bomber jackets, for example, with their slightly sleeker, more fitted appeal, still have the same edge that biker jackets do thanks to their military heritage while offering a much more flattering fit for a slimmer body shape.

No matter the style of leather jacket you choose, it is also essential to make sure that you find the correct fit. Café racers and bomber jackets, for example, benefit from a close, or very slightly oversized fit, but should not be baggy or lose in any way. However, with that being said, you should always remember to leave room for layers underneath your jacket, while still maintaining a close fit around the arms and shoulders.

Buying on a budget

Leather jackets are long-lasting and are often made to a high specification, which is why they can be quite expensive to buy new. While this cost is often worth what leather jackets have to offer in terms of durability and longevity, if you are on a stricter budget, then try to buy vintage rather than going for imitation leather, which will only wear away quickly over time.

Styling your look

The success of the final look of your leather jacket doesn’t just come down to the jacket itself; it also depends on what you choose to pair your jacket with. It is important to consider how different materials and colors work together and don’t just assume that a black leather jacket will pair well with anything. Black often goes best with a monochrome outfit, whereas tan jackets are better for a more casual look, such as with blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

Understanding when less is more

Remember that just because something is made of leather, that doesn’t mean that it is instantly a fashionable item of clothing. It is important to understand when less is more for a statement look, so avoid anything that looks cocky or over the top on the hanger, as it will most likely be even more overbearing once worn.
