The Jack Purcell by Converse are a classic trainer that are often overlooked in favour of the much loved Chuck Taylor All Star. We thought it was about time we paid some attention to the Badminton trainer that looks good with pretty much everything.

Originally created by Jack Purcell, one of Canada’s first Badminton stars. These trainers are minimal, long lasting and with the recent additions from Nike, they’re pretty comfortable as well. Converse Jack Purcell

The shoe is very minimal, certain fads will pass but these trainers have been worn since the mid 1930s which shows how timeless their design is. Having recently had the Nike cushioning you can expect some extra comfort. The canvas trainer has a two-ply Duck canvas outer  making them more resilient, which should avoid getting any holes in your Converse!

History

The Trainers are named after Jack Purcell, a Canadian World champion Badminton player who designed the trainer in 1935. Converse bought the trademark rights for the shoe in 1970s and it has become one of their more iconic brands. Over the years they’ve been worn by pretty much everyone from James Dean to Orlando Bloom, and it’s because they’re not just practical and comfortable but also very stylish.

  • Born in Guelth, Ontario on Christmas eve in 1903
  • Inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1973.
  • He travelled to England in 1931 to compete in the All England Championship where he reached the Semi- Finals.
  • He retired from Badminton to become a Stockbroker.
