The Adidas Originals NMD has been one of the hottest sneaker silhouettes of the past decade, moving some serious units. But what happens when you combine an NMD with one of the worlds most exquisite tailors?Â
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Savile Row, the street in Mayfair, London, famed for it’s traditional bespoke tailors. One of the most popular destinations on Savile Row has to be Henry Poole. They’ve been creating custom made suits for men since 1806, and aren’t showing any signs of stopping anytime soon.
As far as collaborations go, Adidas teaming up with Henry Poole is definitely interesting. The pair have joined forces to bring us two limited edition sneakers. A NMD R2 “Day shoe”, created using fabric from Henry Poole’s chalk stripe day suit, and the NMD XR1 “Evening shoe”, incorporating fabric from the midnight tuxedo dinner suit.
Â
The shoes are packed to the brim with features reminiscent of tailoring throughout, for example Henry Poole’s classic Cundey Weave, used for the linings of tailored jackets used to line the sock of the NMD’s. The limited release sneakers come in a finely crafted wooden box, along with a garment bag and limited edition zine.
Â
The NMD R2 and NMD XR1 will be launched exclusively at size? stores around the country on 21st July and 4th August respectively, and they’ll retail at £150, available in sizes 6-12. Collaborations like this always interest us rather than just throwing a logo onto a standard silhouette and making no changes.
