Daniel Arsham and Adidas are back again with the announcement of the second shoe, “The Present”, in a three-shoe collaboration between the sportswear giant and the New York-based contemporary artist. The sneaker will be available on December 8th at a Kith Miami pre-release and available globally a day later on December 9th.
Arsham is a New York based, Miami raised contemporary artist, working with Adidas to release a three part collaboration focusing on time. Releasing alongside the shoes come short concept films based on the same thing – time. The films are collectively named “Hourglass” and you can watch the first chapter of their short film focusing on the past here.
Always fascinated by time and its relationship with society, Arsham has designed the three shoes as representations of Adidas’s enduring position as a cultural symbol. The release of the first shoe of the collaboration, “The Past”, was inspired by archaeological artefacts and featured a very raw yet sophisticated design.
Adidas and Arsham have returned with the second design of the collaboration, aptly named the Present. Releasing alongside the second chapter of the short film series, this time based on the present. You can watch the second chapter here.
The new sneaker is called The New York Present and comes in an all grey colourway. Focusing on the current moment and materials, the new triple grey sneaker features a fully neoprene upper and grey boost sole. A sleek design, the sneaker is discrete and screams elegance. Marking the collaboration are custom tongue tabs with one sporting Adidas branding and the other featuring Arsham’s “logo”.
Talking on the design Arsham said, “For the second sneaker, the Present, I wanted to pick materials and shape and form that really kind of spoke to this moment,” Arsham said. “It has a very unique, never-before-used grey Boost sole and a new upper, that uses neoprene as its base.”
